It all began when I had a conversation with a close friend of mine, Dave. He mentioned that in his business, caravan repairs and modifications, he has come across the same problem time and time again. People towing a trailer, say a caravan, aren’t able, or don’t know, how to determine their trailer weight at the tow ball. In some cases they don’t even understand the importance of having the correct tow ball weight.

It can be difficult to determine the tow ball weight, given the limited number of products available and their inherent difficulty to use and/or their inaccuracy.

The consequences of having the wrong tow ball weight when travelling, particularly at higher speeds, can be disastrous and even deadly. This is not to mention the potential fines incurred at vehicle roadside checkpoints for having an over or under laden tow ball.

After 2 years of research and development, we have designed and engineered the Australian Made Gypsy Wheel to solve this issue, quickly, simply and easily. It even does some of the calculations for you.

We sought input and engineering expertise from right here in Australia and engaged expert suppliers from around the world to provide the components. This has resulted in a truly unique weighing solution.

To make it as simple to use as possible, we engineered the electronics to automatically send the tow ball weight via Bluetooth, right to your phone. This way, you can be adjusting the load in the trailer and instantly see the effect on the tow ball weight.

Not only does it automatically send the information to your phone, but simple opening the App turns the electronics on, and closing the App or closing your phone puts the electronics back to sleep, thereby preserving the battery life. No need to manually turn the scales on or off.

As the electronic load cell indicator is incorporated into a standard jockey wheel configuration, this Gypsy Wheel performs all of the functions of a normal jockey wheel, with the added benefit of showing the weight at the jockey wheel. With the one-time input of just 2 dimensions from your van or trailer, the Gypsy Wheel can even calculate the weight at the tow ball.
